History Phelps Dodge International Corporation began operations in 1955, in New York City. That same year, our first manufacturing facility was inaugurated in Cuba, with results so successful that they promoted the establishment of new partnerships and operations in Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Philippines in the following years. Our successful expansion continued during the 1960s in Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Ecuador, Chile, Thailand, and Panama. In the 1970s, our growth took us to Zambia, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.  Our operations in Honduras were started in the 1980s.  Hong Kong and China were partnerships established during the 1990s. In recent years we have expanded our presence in Brazil, South Africa, India, Mozambique and Peru. In 2007 Phelps Dodge International Corporation was acquired by General Cable Corporation based in Highland Heights KY. We have entered into the 21st century with a global organization and focus, with more than 50 years of experience serving the international markets, and with a team of global minded and passionate professionals.  We are proud of our history and strongly committed to our customers, today and tomorrow.
