Metal Fabricators of Zambia Ltd (ZAMEFA) is situated in Luanshya in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. ZAMEFA manufactures copper rod, bare copper wires, low voltage power cables, overhead aluminum and aluminum steel reinforced overhead conductors, building wires, flexible cables, telecommunication wire and cables.
The Head Office and Manufacturing Units are situated at Cha Cha Cha Road in Luanshya, and occupy a site of 90,000 square meters. There are sales outlets in Lusaka, Zambia and a Representative Office in Johannesburg in the Republic of South Africa.
Milestones
- ZAMEFA was founded in 1967.
- Privatized in 1996, with Phelps Dodge International Corporation becoming the major shareholder.
- Bureau Veritas Quality International first certified ZAMEFA to ISO Standard 9002:1994 in 1996.
- ZAMEFA was recertified to ISO9001:2000 by Bureau Veritas Quality International in May 2003.
Plant Profile
ZAMEFA’s processes include casting of copper rod (using the Upcast method), wire drawing, conductor stranding and bunching, plastic extrusion, cable laying-up and armoring.Additional facilities exist for raw material, in-process and finished product testing.
ZAMEFA has a processing structure that is able to process copper cathode as an input raw material and produce cable as a finished product. Being situated in the Copperbelt, we are guaranteed the best Zambian copper cathode supplies for our cable and rod production programs. This also enables ZAMEFA to take advantage of adjusting its manufacturing programs at short notice to suit its customers’ requirements. ZAMEFA also holds the South African Bureau of Standards Permit to apply its certification mark to its range of low voltage power cables.
